David G. Schuster is an associate professor of American history specializing in the history of American medicine and culture since the Civil War. He is fascinated with concepts of normality and how they change over time. He earned his BA from the University of California, Berkeley, his MA from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and his Ph.D. from the University of California, Santa Barbara. Before entering academia, he was a public high school teacher near San Diego, California, and spent two years teaching at a sister school in Istanbul, Turkey. Professor Schuster walks and bikes around town rather than using his car and encourages others to do the same.
