Dr. Hayden-Baldauf joined Purdue University Fort Wayne's School of Education as the Program Director for Graduate Education in August 2023. Her colorful biography reflects a wide range of personal and professional experiences over the past two decades.
She earned her Ph.D. in Literacy Education from St. John's University in New York in 2021, with research focused on addressing the unique academic needs of adolescent mothers and their children, complimenting work she did as a childbirth educator, lactation consultant and doula when her children were young. She also holds three Master's degrees in Educational Administration, Creative Nonfiction Writing, and Secondary Education, Social Studies.
Her teaching career has taken her to various regions, including New York, California, and Hawaii, where she has worked with students across different subjects and grade levels. She served two years as the director of special education services at Kamali'i Elementary School in Kihei, Hawaii and has presented at various conferences on the topics of fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion in education. Additionally, she played a role in restructuring the Hawaii's special education funding model as part of a 2018-2019 state-wide fiscal allocation task force.
