I grew up in Indianapolis, earning an B.S. in psychology with a minor in anthropology at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI). I stayed at IUPUI for my initial graduate work, receiving an M.S. in applied social psychology while working in the Osgood Laboratory for Cross-Cultural Research, directed by Dr. Oliver C.S. Tzeng. I then went to Purdue University, West Lafayette, earning my Ph.D. in social-personality psychology in 1996. At Purdue I worked primarily with Drs. Janice Kelly, Eliot Smith, and Denise Driscoll. I held one-year academic positions in Glenville, West Virginia and Fort Lauderdale, Florida before joining the Department of Psychology at (I)PFW in 1998.
