I was born and raised in Sierra Leone, West Africa – a country with population of about five million on the west coast of Africa. I did my elementary, high school, and college education in the country graduating with a first man honors Diploma in Theology in 1983. Straight out of high school in 1978, I landed my first full time ministry position with Scripture Union of Sierra Leone as general office worker.
In 1984, I was sent to England for advanced studies at London Bible College (now London School of Theology) and returned in 1988 to work at my alma-mater, Sierra Leone Bible College (now The Evangelical College of Theology - TECT) in Jui. I served as the sole Agent for the Countess of Huntingdon’s Connexion in England from 1988 to 1992 while teaching Bible Knowledge, English, and Literature in English at my former high school, the Huntingdon Secondary School, Jui.
In 1992, I left my native home country to come to America in search of a better life and superior academic credentials. Today, I hold two masters’ degrees (Master of Sacred Literature – MSL; Master of Arts - MA) and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Philosophy and Religious Studies. Employed by Purdue University, I teach multi-level Philosophy and Religious studies classes at the Purdue University, Fort Wayne, Indiana. I serve as the Faculty Advisor for the African Students Organization and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS).
Some of my hobbies include reading, writing, gardening, yard work, bicycling, and fishing. I have two dogs - a thoroughbred Bichon Frise, called Sheba Alisha Decker. She was born in the early hours of Wednesday, July 15, 2020, and a hybrid hypoallergenic no shedding goldendoodle called Sierra Alia Decker born Saturday, January 29, 2022.
Led to the Lord in 1973, my pulpit and classroom ministries cover many countries in Africa, the United Kingdom, Europe, South America, and now the United States of America. I have four grown children – three daughters (Jessica, Grace, Joy Prudence) and a son (Johnathan P. II). It is surely a blessing - thrill, joy, and privilege to be able to join you in this pursuit of academic excellence. I am totally chuffed to bits.
Since 2002 it has been my privilege, joy and honor to have been able to work here at this wonderful institution, where to the least of my surprises I have come to discover that everyone is somebody. My international travel and work experience is extensive covering many countries in Africa, England and Europe, South America and now here in America. These combined unique experiences afford me extensive international and intercultural knowledge. I am sure this experience will make our interactions here not just meaningful but pleasant. I must say that it is good to have you in this class.
