Clarinetist Kylie Stultz-Dessent is a versatile artist with a varied career as an educator, soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer. She currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music (clarinet) at Purdue University Fort Wayne. Prior to her appointment at PFW, Dr. Stultz served on faculty at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She is a Selmer Performing Artist and regularly performs throughout the country in orchestral and chamber music settings. Recent engagements include performances at the 2022 American Single Reed Summit in Columbia, South Carolina, a world premiere at ClarinetFest 2022 in Reno, Nevada, and a collaboration with Facing West Shadows in San Francisco, California in July 2022. As an orchestral musician, she has performed with the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in Fort Wayne, Indiana, the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in Richmond, Indiana, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in Carmel, Indiana, and the Columbus Philharmonic in Columbus, Indiana.
An avid chamber musician, Dr. Stultz is a member of numerous award-winning chamber ensembles. She was a semi-finalist in the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition (2016) and was named the winner of the first annual Chicago Clarinet Ensemble International Competition (2014). She has been featured as a guest artist for multiple woodwind festivals including the 2023 Campbellsville University Woodwind Day and the 2018 Woodwind Summit in Staples, Minnesota.
Dr. Stultz is a sought-after pedagogue and educator. She regularly teaches clinics throughout the Midwest and in 2014, she co-founded the Indiana Clarinet Experience (ICE), a week-long clarinet institute that focuses on clarinet instruction, chamber music, music appreciation, and musicality. Dr. Stultz directs this camp on the Purdue Fort Wayne School of Music campus each June. She also serves on the faculty for the Indiana University Summer Music Clinic and has presented clinics at numerous conferences. She holds degrees from the prestigious Indiana University Jacobs School of Music (B.M. and D.M.) and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (M.M.).
