Enhanced Summer and Hybrid Work Schedules to be Implemented

April 9, 2024

Last summer, Purdue University Fort Wayne piloted an alternate summer schedule for employees that was inspired by discussions related to its Quality of Place initiatives. Based on the positive feedback that was shared, we will again offer the opportunity for administrative and academic units to operate on a flexible schedule.

The parameters of the program are that campus offices will be open for regular business Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon. Employees are still expected to work a 40-hour week. Outside of those requirements, departments will continue to have the flexibility to set their scheduled hours, as needed.

For example:

Monday: 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. (30-minute lunch) OR 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch)

Tuesday: 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. (30-minute lunch) OR 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch)

Wednesday: 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. (30-minute lunch) OR 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch)

Thursday: 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m. (30-minute lunch) OR 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (1-hour lunch)

Friday: 8 a.m.–noon (no lunch)

In addition, supervisors may permit employees to work remotely up to two days per week.

These summer hours and additional remote work opportunity will be in effect from May 28 through August 2. Normal campus schedules will resume on August 5.

The head of your department/unit will communicate specific summer hours for your area soon, and there may be some exceptions in order to accommodate university priorities. For instance, there are multiple New Student Orientation events scheduled during the summer that will require some employees to be on campus outside of summer work schedules.

Thank you for all you do to create a positive work environment at Purdue Fort Wayne.
