Purdue Fort Wayne to Join Horizon League
August 6, 2019
Dear Colleagues and Students,
I am pleased to share some wonderful news with our campus community.
This morning we are announcing Purdue Fort Wayne’s intent to join the Horizon League athletics conference.
The university will officially join the Horizon League on July 1, 2020, and will begin competition during the 2020–21 academic year. We will continue as a member of the Summit League for the upcoming 2019–20 academic year.
We are honored to join an impressive group of universities in a league that is such a perfect fit for our institution. The Horizon League currently includes 10 universities: Cleveland State University, University of Detroit Mercy, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Northern Kentucky University, Oakland University, University of Illinois at Chicago, Wright State University, and Youngstown State University.
I wish to thank everyone who has worked so hard to guide the university and our athletics program to this important milestone, especially our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans. In particular, we are enormously grateful for the generosity of our donors, whose financial support will help offset the costs of moving to the new league.
This is a terrific prelude to the beginning of a new fall semester in just a couple of weeks. Let’s cheer on our Mastodon student-athletes like never before as we begin the transition to the Horizon League.
Sincerely,
Ron Elsenbaumer
Chancellor
