Serving Those Who Serve brunch Nov. 10

October 31, 2022

Dear students, faculty, and staff,

Veterans Day each November is a time to reflect on the commitment and sacrifices of those who have helped strengthen our country through military service, and to remember the armistice that went into effect at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, which signaled the end of what was at that time considered to be the “war to end all wars.” Service of all kinds, whether it’s in the armed forces, healthcare, criminal justice, or education, makes us who we are as a community, and as a nation.

On Thursday, November 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Military Student Services and the Student Government Association will host the 2nd Annual Serving Those Who Serve brunch in the International Ballroom of Walb Student Union. Students, faculty, and staff from both Purdue University Fort Wayne and Indiana University Fort Wayne who meet at least one of the following criteria are invited to receive a complimentary brunch as a way of thanking you for your service to our community:

• In a service-oriented major
• Currently working in a service-oriented position
• Served in the military

Each college and school will also have a self-care station for attendees, and several local organizations will have representatives on hand passing out donated items and discussing volunteer opportunities that are available.

A brief ceremony will start at 11 a.m. with the Presentation of Colors by Purdue Fort Wayne’s ROTC and the singing of the National Anthem by a student from our College of Visual and Performing Arts. I am also honored to have been asked to make a few remarks, followed by two students—one from PFW and one from IUFW—who will share their thoughts on the importance of service and what it means to them.

Approximately 20 volunteers are needed to help support these efforts. Please click on this link to see the available opportunities and sign up.

For additional information, contact Military Student Services at [email protected].

I invite all who are affiliated with service in a way described above to join us for brunch a week from Thursday, and thank you on behalf of our entire campus community for what you have done and continue to do.

Sincerely,

Ron Elsenbaumer
Chancellor
