Anthropology Club Lunchtime Lecture Series Presents...Prof. Sarah Neuman, Univ. of Chicago: Talking Trash: Changing Ideas of Waste in Mesoamerica

Professor Newman will be joining us through Zoom to talk about how changing ideas about trash have influenced hat gets discarded and what gets discovered in Mesoamerica from pre-Columbian times through the colonial period and into the present. She will discuss the El Zotz archaeological site in Guatemala and how the artifacts there were used and reused, concepts of waste and practices of waste management came into contact and conflict with Europeans ones, in early colonial New Spain.
