Japanese Documentary Screening, WATASHITACHI WA NINGENDA {We are human} 2022

Liberal Arts Building, Room 35C

The film, “Watashitachi wa ningenda (2022),” sheds light on Japan’s immigration system and reveals realities of discrimination and prejudice against foreign immigrants and workers in contemporary Japan. It shows the history of Japan’s immigration policies and laws, persistent discriminatory attitudes and practices against Koreans and other newcomers, and the human rights of immigrants, refugees, and asylees in Japan. The guarantee of fundamental human rights among all human beings is highlighted.

Ko Chanyu, the filmmaker, is a Korean descendent living in Japan. Ko resists ethnic oppressions and fights for human rights and social justice. This film is relevant to not just Japan but also any countries such as the United States because it discusses global migration, human rights, and social justice.

There will be discussion/Q&A time right after the film.
