CSD graduate students provide free speech therapy at GiGi’s Playhouse

Graduate students in Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders program have collaborated with Gigi’s Playhouse in Fort Wayne to provide free speech therapy services for their participants. Gigi’s Playhouse is a Down Syndrome Achievement Center with worldwide locations. Under supervision from CSD faculty, students offer free speech therapy for clients to work on skills such as producing speech sounds correctly, social skills, and using functional language.

Izzy Wissel and Kaylee Bobay (above, with a client) conducted mock interviews with clients ranging from children to adults, and Dre Kline, Lydia Steffen, Molly Sinovic, Maddie Ludwig, and Sydnee Meredith worked with individuals. CSD students worked with participants enrolled in Gigi U, a program designed to teach communication and job skills, goal setting, and public speaking.
