International students' contributions to northeast Indiana campuses go beyond $44 million impact: officials

More than 1.1 million international students at U.S. colleges—including nearly 30,000 studying in Indiana—contributed a record $43.8 billion to the economy last academic year, according to a recent report from an international education and exchange group.

This marked the third consecutive year of recorded increases following the negative effects of the coronavirus pandemic, NAFSA: Association of International Educators announced last month.

Carl Drummond of Purdue Fort Wayne said international students enrich the campus with their diverse experiences, cultures, and life histories.

Students from other countries “to a small degree give our domestic students a taste of international culture,” said Drummond, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs.
