Music to the ears: PFW helps city ascend top 10-destination scale
The Indiana Commission for Higher Education Thursday recommended approval of Purdue University Fort Wayne’s planned $22 million music center. Construction of the facility will accommodate future growth in the school’s popular music offerings and could move the city closer to realizing its goal as a top 10 destination for music lovers.
The 26,000-square- foot facility is needed due to existing on- and off-campus music venues operating at maximum capacity, and expected enrollment growth in the school’s music curricula, said Christopher Ruhl, Purdue’s chief financial officer, in a Feb. 15 letter to the commission.
The Purdue Board of Trustees OK’d the planning, financing, construction and awarding of contracts in December. PFW announced last spring the 2023 state budget allocated $15 million for the music center.
