Purdue Fort Wayne basketball programs, in era of success, strive to get more attention
As the Purdue Fort Wayne men’s and women’s basketball teams have racked up victories, Dori Meighan has been in the stands to cheer them on.
A season-ticket holder for nearly two decades, Meighan has seen the Mastodons go from fledgling NCAA Division I school to one that defeated Indiana University’s men’s basketball team twice and has become a power in the Horizon League.
PFW has had unprecedented success on the basketball court from a win-loss perspective, which athletic director Kelley Hartley Hutton attributed to having the right head coaches, Jon Coffman with the men, and Fort Wayne-native Maria Marchesano with the women. The Mastodons feel it’s a matter of when, not if, they’ll get berths in NCAA Tournaments, and Meighan could then get her most fervent wish—more people paying attention to the PFW basketball.
