Purdue Fort Wayne names associate vice chancellor for communications and marketing

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—Purdue University Fort Wayne announced today the appointment of P. David Johnson as associate vice chancellor for communications and marketing.

Johnson is a nationally recognized expert in higher education branding, marketing, and communications and currently serves as assistant vice president for marketing and brand activation at the University of Richmond.

Johnson will join the recently formed Office of Communications and Marketing at Purdue Fort Wayne and will help lead the development and implementation of an integrated communications and marketing program for the university. He will report to Jerry Lewis, who was appointed vice chancellor for communications and marketing by Chancellor Ronald Elsenbaumer last year.

“I am delighted that David Johnson will be joining Purdue Fort Wayne,” says Lewis. “He possesses a perfect combination of talent, skill, and experience that is essential as the university continues to advance its new brand as part of the Purdue University system.”

Johnson will be responsible for managing and advancing the university’s brand and strategic messaging through a growing marketing and communications program that includes print, advertising, social media, advertising, multimedia/digital, video, and branded environments.

“I am very excited to be joining Purdue Fort Wayne at such an extraordinary time in its history and development,” says Johnson. “Few universities have the opportunity to completely rebrand, and I look forward to helping further define and advance the new branding that has been underway since last year.”

Prior to joining the University of Richmond, Johnson held leadership positions at Emory University, the University of Texas at Arlington, and the University of Miami. He is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in communication arts and design.

Johnson will begin his new role on July 15.
