Purdue University Fort Wayne strikes right note with Percussion Day
Eric Schweikert needed only a few seconds Sunday afternoon to demonstrate a xylophone warm-up exercise to the young musicians seated on a Purdue University Fort Wayne stage, but he cautioned them from trying to accomplish the task just as quickly.
“You only go as fast as you can hit every note right,” he said, adding that speed comes with patience. “Have the discipline to go slow and be perfect.”
Schweikert offered this and other advice during Percussion Day, a free event for percussionists of all ages.
