Michael Barbaro

News Release

Tickets for Michael Barbaro Omnibus presentation available today at 1:30 p.m.

The 29th season of Purdue University Fort Wayne’s popular Omnibus Speaker Series starts Oct. 24 with Michael Barbaro, a New York Times political journalist and host of "The Daily," which is one of the world’s most popular podcasts with 3 million listeners. “The Moment Demands an Explanation—`The Daily' Is on a Mission to Find It,” will start at 7:30 p.m. in Auer Performance Hall.

Barbaro will discuss the podcast's creation and how it embraces new forms of storytelling to confront the media industry’s biggest challenge: distrust from the public. "The Daily" has won a duPont-Columbia University Award for audio excellence and has been named a top podcast of the year by Time, Entertainment Weekly, The Atlantic, Esquire, Adweek, The New Yorker, and New York Magazine.

Presented every weekday, "The Daily" takes an unfiltered and nonpartisan perspective on the biggest stories. Barbaro will talk about the increasing role of podcasting in society, lessons he’s learned, and his coverage of the last three presidential races. He pays special attention to the state of journalism today, including the impact of cable versus the rising popularity of podcasts, and the future of print journalism.

Tickets will be released at 1:30 p.m. today. They are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis through the Schatzlein Box Office or PFW’s online ticketing platform. A $1.50 convenience charge is assessed per ticket for online orders, with a limit of four tickets per person.

For anyone wanting to get tickets to the show in person, box office hours are 1:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday-Friday.

Reserved online tickets can be sent to patrons via text message or email. These digital options are helpful to avoid standing at the box office the night of the show. Tickets can also be picked up in person beginning one hour before the presentation.

The Omnibus Speaker Series at Purdue Fort Wayne is made possible in part due to the support of the English-Bonter-Mitchell Foundation, which has sponsored every season since the series launched in 1995.
