New and Emerging Technologies highlighted in keynote address at PFW's 16th Annual Opportunity Banquet

FORT WAYNE, Ind.—The weapons that will be developed for war fighting from new and emerging technologies, and the moral and ethical implications of some of those inventions, as well as the effects the new weapons will have on the individual soldier, are all part of the keynote address to be delivered by Major General Robert H. Latiff, (Ret) at the 16th Annual Opportunity Banquet on Friday, November 15, at Purdue University Fort Wayne.

The event, which is sponsored by Purdue Fort Wayne’s student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers, begins with a career fair from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Walb Union Classic Ballroom and Room 126. That will be followed by dinner, with the keynote speech scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.

Nearly three-dozen companies, ranging from automotive manufacturers, defense contractors, engineering and design firms, logistics, utilities, and construction companies will be at the career fair.

Major General Latiff retired from the US Air Force in 2006. He is a consultant, providing advice on advanced technology matters to corporate and government clients and to universities. He is an adjunct faculty member with the John J. Reilly Center for Science, Technology, and Values at the University of Notre Dame. He is also a research professor at George Mason University, with interests primarily in technologies to support the US intelligence community.

Latiff received a Ph.D. and an M.S. in materials science and a B.S. in physics from the University of Notre Dame, and is a graduate of the National Security Fellows Program at Harvard’s JFK School of Government. He is a member of the Intelligence Community Studies Board and the Committee on International Security and Arms Control of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.

Following the keynote speech, Latiff will hold a book signing for his latest book, Future War: Preparing for the New Global Battlefield.

Tickets for the career fair and banquet are available on the Purdue Fort Wayne campus in the Engineering Building, Room 327, until Friday, November 8.
