Purdue Fort Wayne campus community to wrap up 'spring fling' with 'big night'
FORT WAYNE, Ind.—As Purdue University Fort Wayne continues to take baby mastodon steps toward a return to normal, some traditions are beginning to emerge from their pandemic-induced hibernation. One such activity is Spring Fling week, an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to recharge their batteries in advance of finals at the beginning of May.
Spring Fling week will culminate on Friday between 5 and 11 p.m. with Mastodons Big Night, a carnival extravaganza hosted exclusively for all Purdue Fort Wayne and Indiana Fort Wayne students and employees, as well as their partners and children. This event is not open to the general public, but media are invited to capture all the festivities scheduled to take place in parking lots 10 and 11, which are adjacent to the St. Joseph River on the west side of the main campus.
Because this is a university-sponsored event, PFW mask and social-distancing protocols will be in effect.
The carnival, including rides, games, and pyrotechnics, will be spread out over both parking lots to promote social distancing. Plans for the event were also submitted to the local health department and the risk management team at Purdue West Lafayette to bolster the university’s efforts to offer a safe and enjoyable event for all participants.
