Prepare Your B.A. Video Audition
Audition for the B.A. in Musical Theatre, or, explore our other degree option.
At Purdue Fort Wayne, an audition is not required for acceptance to the Bachelor of Arts degree in Theatre, with a required concentration in either Musical Theatre, Acting, Design/Technology, or Directing. To be considered for a Department of Theatre scholarship, prospective B.A. Theatre majors may audition, if interested in a performance track, or interview, if interested in a Design/Technology track or a Directing track. If undecided and interested in both types of tracks, students may either complete both types of scholarship consideration processes below, or they may complete one with the understanding that they are able to change their concentration once admitted without penalty of losing their award.
While the performance video or interview completes the process for consideration of a Department of Theatre scholarship, please be reminded that students within our Department must apply, be accepted to PFW and choose the Theatre B.A. as their primary major in order to be awarded a Department of Theatre scholarship. The Department also invites all prospective students to contact the chair (Beverly Redman, [email protected]), or schedule a campus visit and department tour, if interested in learning more about the theatre major and the PFW community as a whole.
FOR THE B.A. PERFORMANCE TRACKS: If intending to pursue either an Acting or Musical Theatre concentration in the B.A. degree program, students should submit a video audition. The Musical Theatre video audition requires the candidate to perform two pieces: a performance of a song from a Broadway musical and a performance of a 1 to 2 minute monologue from a well-respected, published play. Prospective students seeking an acting concentration may opt to perform two monologues instead of a monologue and a song, if they wish, or they may complete the monologue and song audition. Please slate before your performance, saying your name, your high school, your play/musical and the character’s name. Please work on these pieces until fully memorized and polished and attend to clear diction. Create a video of your pieces and upload that video to YouTube. Send the link to Chair of Theatre at PFW, Beverly Redman, [email protected].
FOR THE B.A. DESIGN/TECHNOLOGY TRACK OR THE DIRECTING TRACK: Prospective students who are interested in a B.A. in Theatre with either a concentration in Directing or Design/Technology should contact Dr. Redman and arrange an interview for their scholarship consideration.
While the performance video or interview completes the process for consideration of a Department of Theatre scholarship, please be reminded that students within our Department must apply, be accepted to PFW and choose the Theatre B.A. as their primary major in order to be awarded a Department of Theatre scholarship. The Department also invites all prospective students to contact the Chair (Beverly Redman, [email protected]), or schedule a campus visit and department tour with Admissions and/or Financial Aid (https://www.pfw.edu/admissions-financial-aid/visit), if interested in learning more about both the Theatre major and the PFW community as a whole.
