American Elm
Description
Once used extensively as a street tree, in its best form the American Elm is vase shaped and strongly arched above, with drooping branches. Dutch elm disease, a wilt fungus introduced from Europe in the 1930s and spread by elm bark beetles, caused the devastation of most trees, and continues to cause losses among remaining trees.
