Baldcypress
Description
A deciduous, leaf-losing conifer that grows on saturated and seasonally inundated areas, the baldcypress will develop knees if growing in saturated soils. Originally native to the Southwest, it makes an excellent landscaping tree in a range of soils. The bark is thin and shreddy. Seeds are eaten by many species of wildlife; they were important food of the now-extinct Carolina parakeet.
