Butternut

Butternut tree

Description

Butternut grows best on well-drained streambanks. Its nuts are similar to the black walnut’s, but are oblong in shape. During the past decade, butternut canker, a fungal disease, has killed up to 80 percent of butternut trees in some of the states within its natural range.
