Flowering Dogwood

Description
Its layered branching pattern, clear-white flower bracts that appear before the leaves in spring, and its ability to flower well in the shaded understory make this the queen of flowering trees. However, dogwood anthracnose, a leaf and stem fungal disease, has killed most native flowering dogwoods in the forests of the Middle Atlantic and New England states.
