Honeylocust

Description
A tree of medieval appearance, its trunk is dark, with very large spines. On old trees, spines form dense, branched clusters. Honeylocust is typically a bottomland species. The leaves are pinnate or doubly pinnate. Its greenish-yellow flowers are a good source of nectar for bees. Its long, flat pods are sweet and eaten by wildlife. Cultivars of a thornless form are available for ornamental use.
