Mockernut Hickory

Description
The bark of this tree is tight and rough, not shaggy like the shagbark hickory. Compound leaves have seven to nine leaflets, and the undersides of leaves, leaf stems, and new branches are hairy. The nut is four angled, with a thick husk, and is eaten by wildlife. Its dark-brown hardwood is used for tool handles.
