Sand Hickory

Description
Sand hickory is a medium tree (up to 50 feet in height) that grows in dry, sandy upland soils. It has a compound leaf with seven to nine leaflets, which has pubescence beneath and on the axis. The top of the leaf has scales, which feel like fine sand when touched. In Indiana, it is a rare tree in only a few locations in the southwestern counties.
