Winged Elm

Description
The winged elm is a medium-sized tree (30–40 feet high) that flowers and fruits in spring. Its leaves are leathery dark green on the upper surface, paler and downy on the lower. Its branches are reddish brown, with two opposite, thin corky ridges that protrude one-half inch. Winged elm wood, like rock elm, is used for making furniture. Twigs and leaves are eaten by deer in early spring.
