Purdue IT manages many aspects of technology across the Purdue Fort Wayne campus, including accounts, email, networking, computer hardware, software. We also offer support for all these services through Knowledge Base, our Help Desk, and in-person training.
Accounts and Passwords
Your access and security are top of mind.
We provide computer-user accounts for Purdue Fort Wayne students, faculty, staff, faculty emeriti, and guests. This network account grants access to campus computers and software, email, wireless access, and more. The following information offers more specifics on accounts and passwords.
Passwords are required on all computer accounts in order to secure individual and university data. The process for receiving and creating passwords varies depending on the type of account. All Purdue Fort Wayne account passwords need to follow the same conventions.

Faculty and staff will receive a Purdue Fort Wayne network account once their department completes the New Employee Account Request Form. Faculty and staff receive their username and password via an email notification from IT Services. Faculty and staff accounts include the following:
- Microsoft Office 365, which includes email, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Access to goPFW
- Purdue Fort Wayne network software
- O-drive access (shared departmental space)
- I-drive access (individual storage space)
- Web space, if requested
If you need training, submit a ticket to the Help Desk. You can make changes and add or remove resources in your accounts by completing the Account Modification Form. Your account will remain active until your exit from Purdue Fort Wayne.
Emeriti and official retirees may retain their Purdue Fort Wayne account, email address, personal storage space, and personal web space upon retiring. Access to Banner, departmental storage, and web space are removed unless the retiree is staying on in an official capacity.
The Emeritus/Retiree Account Form should be filled out to initiate the process of keeping or deleting the account. Information Technology Services technicians are available to assist you with any questions you might have or to provide one-on-one assistance with saving files, address book contacts, etc.
Indiana University affiliate accounts allow faculty and staff members to access software programs available through IU. Faculty and staff can request an IU affiliate account by contacting the Help Desk. IT Services will send a university ID number to create an account. Go to Account Management at IU to establish your account. IU affiliate accounts allow access to the following information:
- Affinity (donor database)
- One.IU (student database)
- OVPIA (grant-writing program)
When you are admitted to Purdue Fort Wayne you are automatically given an account. To activate your account, click the First-Time User link in goPFW. During the setup process you will choose a password. This password expires every 120 days, and you will be notified by email when you need to change this password. Your username and password will help access the following:
- Microsoft Office 365, which includes email, OneDrive, Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Online coursework, registering for classes, financial aid, and more through goPFW
- Use of the student-access computing labs
- Personal storage space
To gain access to Student Information Systems at PFW, the SIS Access Request Form needs to be filled out. This form will cover access to the following systems: Banner, Cognos, EAB Navigate, myBLUEprint, and Slate CRM. Please note, this process can take up to 10 business days.

Purdue Career Accounts
A Purdue Career Account is created for all Purdue Fort Wayne employees to access a variety of Purdue resources, including payroll information. Pay stubs can be viewed or downloaded from the OnePurdue portal on the Purdue University website.
Your Purdue Career Account is separate from your Purdue Fort Wayne network account. You can find your Purdue Career Account user ID on the Employee tab in goPFW. If you do not know your Career Account password, email a request to the Help Desk. The Help Desk staff will contact you with further information.
Mainframe Account
A Purdue mainframe account gives staff members access to legacy-student data. To reset your Purdue mainframe account password, contact the Help Desk.

goPFW
Your primary student account.
Almost everything you need access to you can find on goPFW: class registration, enrollment info, billing and financial aid info, academic progress, student life, and more. You must activate your network account before you can use goPFW. All you have to do is go to the Account Activation page and choose First-Time User.
Check that inbox.
Your student email account is pretty important here. It’s where almost all important info is sent. You can access your email through the Office 365 portal or by clicking the link on the main goPFW page. You can also access your email through Outlook, available for desktops, phones, and tablets.
For your security, we process all emails and actively manage a spam filter so that we can remove illegitimate mail and minimize false positives.
Listserv is an automated email list that is used to distribute information or promote open discussion about a particular topic. Faculty, staff, or official student organizations can create a listserv for university business.

Network and Internet
WIRELESS
All Purdue Fort Wayne students, faculty, and staff have access to the Purdue Fort Wayne wireless network. The device must be wireless capable and be configured correctly in order to gain access. Instructions for connecting to Purdue Fort Wayne wireless can be found in our Knowledge Base article.
Indiana University Fort Wayne students, faculty, and staff can connect using their Purdue Fort Wayne account, or use their IU account through eduroam.
SecureW2
Purdue University Fort Wayne can now utilize a cloud-based application, SecureW2, to automate and simplify connecting devices to campus Wi-Fi.
Instructions for configuring Wi-Fi on your device using SecureW2 can be found in our Knowledge Base article. While SecureW2 is encouraged, connecting manually to Wi-Fi and entering your PFW credentials will still work and is acceptable.
WIRED
Most employee offices have one or more wired network connections. ITS provides cables to connect university-owned PCs to the network. Some locations on campus have very specific cable requirements, so only cables provided by ITS should be used.
CONNECT IN HOUSING
Students in student housing can access the internet via wired and wireless connections. Instructions and cables are distributed during move-in week. Gaming consoles and streaming devices can be connected with either wired or wireless. Please use Knowledge Base for further instructions.
GUESTS
Guest accounts are for individuals who have a temporary business, research, or educational need to access university IT resources.
Short-Term Guests
Short-term guest accounts can be created only by approved creators. If you would like to be an approved creator, please have your dean, chair, or director make a request to the Help Desk.
We consider campus visitors, workshop attendees, etc., to be short-term guests. Short-term guests need access for no more than six weeks, and their access for only the computer lab, classroom lecterns, or wireless. We will not provide them access to email, Banner, Blackboard, network storage, or other campus resources.
If a short-term guest has their own device, needs only wireless access, and the access is needed for only one day to one week, use the Guest Account Manager.
If a short-term guest needs to use a classroom lectern or lab computer, and access is needed only for one day to six weeks, use Guest Account Management. Note that Guest Account Management accounts also get access to wireless, but the guest must configure their device to use the regular (not guest) wireless.
Long-Term Guests
We consider people who have a long-term relationship with Purdue Fort Wayne—but who are not paid via Purdue and are not in SAP HR as nonpaid employees—to be long-term guests. Examples include contractors, vendors, and those who work for a company in residence. Long-term guests need access for more than one month. This can include email, personal network storage, departmental storage, web space, and wireless.
If the long-term guest will be entered into SAP HR as a nonpaid employee, fill out the Employee Account Creation Form. If the guest will not be entered into SAP HR as a nonpaid employee, fill out the Guest Account Form.
Students, faculty, and staff have access to Purdue Fort Wayne wireless and email via most mobile devices, once configured properly. IT Services provides limited support for personally owned smartphones running the following operating systems:
- Android
- iOS (iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad)
- BlackBerry
- Windows Mobile
Students, faculty, and staff have 250 MB of personal network file storage located on the Purdue Fort Wayne network. Personal network file storage can be accessed through goPFW as My Files and on a lab computer as a network drive (Windows) or volume for Mac.
Firewall
Purdue Fort Wayne has a firewall appliance that sits between the internet and Purdue Fort Wayne servers and workstations. It is used to block unauthorized or malicious traffic while allowing legitimate traffic to pass.
To request changes to the firewall, please fill out the Firewall Change Form.
Blocked Connections
Purdue Fort Wayne restricts the following website categories from being accessed on the Purdue Fort Wayne network:
- Botnets
- Confirmed spam sources
- Hacking
- Keyloggers
- Malware sites
- Phishing and other frauds
- Spyware
VPN Connections
VPN stands for virtual private network. It is used at Purdue Fort Wayne to protect data transmissions when connecting from a Purdue Fort Wayne computer to Purdue West Lafayette, or when connecting from off campus to Purdue Fort Wayne systems. In many cases, establishing a VPN connection is required to access certain systems.
Departmental Web Space
Every department has a web space; however, additional websites can be created for official campus committees or employee organizations, etc. Access for individuals can be granted or removed at the department’s discretion. Use of web space is governed by the Policy for Purdue Pages on the World Wide Web (C-42).
Faculty and Staff Web Space
Faculty and staff are eligible for personal web space. To request personal web space, contact the IT Services Help Desk. Web space is deleted when the employee leaves the university. Use of webspace is governed by the Policy for Purdue Pages on the World Wide Web (C-42).

Cisco AnyConnect is a unified security end point agent that delivers multiple security services to protect the enterprise. It allows students to securely access university resources. Microsoft Office 365 includes many applications that can be used online through a web browser or as installed software on laptops, desktops and mobile devices. A few of the applications included in 365 include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and access to PFW email. These applications can be installed on up to five personally owned devices. However, Office products are readily available on university-owned devices. Office365 can be accessed by going to goPFW and logging in with your Purdue Fort Wayne credentials.
Poll Everywhere
Poll Everywhere is an online service that allows teachers to ask their students a question. The students answer the question using their mobile phones, X, or web browsers. Instructions for accessing Poll Everywhere can be found in our Poll Everywhere Quick Guide.
Reference Management: Endnote
Endnote is a is a reference manager that helps you save time formatting citations so that you can focus on your research. Endnote is free with the download link in the Knowledge Base article.
Turnitin Draft Coach
Turnitin Draft Coach is a tool that helps students improve their academic-writing and research skills by providing instant feedback. This tool provides three types of feedback: similarity, citation, and grammar. Turnitin Draft Coach is free to all instructors and students. It can be accessed through a Microsoft Word Add-on. Video Creation and Streaming
Kaltura is the university-supported video-creation and streaming tool. It is free for all students. There are different components of Kaltura. There are three major components of Kaltura, including Kaltura MedisSpace, Kaltura Capture, and Kaltura Integration, in Brightspace (video explanation). - Kaltura MediaSpace is the university’s media portal for you to upload, host, and share videos, images, and audios. Media stored in Kaltura MediaSpace can be directed inserted as part of the Assignment, Discussion Topic post, and Quizzes (if HTML editor is enabled).

Web Conferencing
There are two university support web conferencing tools, Zoom and Teams.
Zoom
Zoom is a cloud-based web conferencing tool that enables you to communicate with others via virtual video and audio conferencing, webinar and live chats. Other commonly used features include screen sharing, meeting recording, polling, and breakout rooms.

Faculty Educational Software and Applications
iClicker Cloud
iClicker Cloud alllows you to track attendance using GPS technology, ask target (heat map) questions, administer quizzes, and analyze student performance using a web browser. Students participate using mobile devices, laptops, and iClicker remotes.
Maplesoft Maple
Maple is a symbolic and numeric computing environment as well as a multi-paradigm programming language. It covers several areas of technical computing, such as symbolic mathematics, numerical analysis, data processing, visualization, and others.
Mathematica
Mathematica contains numerical computational abilities, as well as symbolic visual capabilities.
Minitab
Minitab can perform a variety of data analysis and presentation functions, including statistical analyses and graphical presentation of data.
Respondus LockDown Browser
LockDown Browser is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within a learning management system. Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor are fully integrated into Brightspace.
Scantron
Scantron is a multiple-choice test tool that offers specialized forms which are filled in by students during their exam and then fed through a specialized Scantron scanning machine to automatically score, analyze and print data.
Turnitin
Turnitin checks student submitted papers for plagiarism against a variety of sources including peer reviewed articles, Internet content, and previously submitted papers.
Webex
A Webex meeting is an online meeting that allows you to virtually meet with other people, without leaving your home or office. Webex meetings require a computer with Internet access. Webex is available to all faculty and staff using their Purdue Career Accounts. Webex can be accessed by visiting here and signing into with your Purdue Career Account and BoilerKey.
Zoom
Zoom provides cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings, and group messaging creating a complete conference room solution. Please use your pfw.edu email to set up your Zoom account. Zoom can be accessed by going here and selecting the link next to “Fort Wayne.” It will require your @pfw.edu email address and the password you used to set up your account. If you have not had your @pfw.edu Zoom account activated, please contact the Help Desk at [email protected] or 260-481-6030.
Adobe Creative Cloud
Provides apps and services for video, design, photography and web creations. Applications include Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Purdue Fort Wayne employees must use their Purdue Career Account credentials and BoilerKey when accessing Adobe products on campus machines and university owned devices.
Camtasia
A a simple, all-in-one video-editing and screen-recording software program. It is available for both Windows and MacOS. Camtasia studio is free for all full-time faculty and staff. It can be downloaded for personal computers by visiting the Purdue University Community Hub. You will use your Purdue credentials (not PFW) to log in.
Microsoft Office 365
Includes many applications that can be used online through a web browser or as installed software on laptops, desktops, and mobile devices. A few of the applications included in O365 are Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, and access to PFW email. These applications can be installed on up to five personally owned devices. Snagit
Lets you take screenshots, edit your images, and record lightweight screen recordings. It’s perfect for giving feedback, creating clear documentation and training materials, and showing others exactly how to do something. SnagIt is free for all full-time faculty and staff. It can be downloaded for personal computers by visiting the Purdue University Community Hub. You will use your Purdue credentials (not PFW) to log in.
Cisco AnyConnect VPN
An application that allow students, faculty, and staff to securely connect to campus resources while off campus. Discover how to install and configure Cisco AnyConnect.
ArcGIS
Used for creating, viewing, and sharing maps, in addition to compiling geographic data, analyzing mapped information, and managing geographic information in a database.
Brightspace Learning Environment

EndNote
Citation-management software that allows users to create customized libraries of references, automatically create citations and bibliography matching the requirements of the selected journal or style manual, sync and share references, and more.
goPFW
The portal for accessing several resources, such as Banner for Grade, eMail, and local network drives.
MATLAB
Combines a desktop environment tuned for interactive analysis and design processes with a programming language that expresses matrix and array mathematics directly.
Microsoft Teams
A collaboration space that includes threaded chats, video conferencing, file sharing, and more. Microsoft Teams can be accessed by going to goPFW, logging in, and selecting the Student Employee and Email link.
Qualtrics
An online-survey software solution. All faculty and staff with a Purdue Career Account can create a Qualtrics account through the university’s enterprise license. Qualtrics users can track participation, send invitations and reminders, display survey results graphically and statistically in real time, and export raw data in a variety of formats (to CSV, XML, HTML and SPSS, and popular statistical packages). Qualtrics can be accessed here by signing in with your Purdue Career Account and BoilerKey.
Solstice
A user app is installed on Windows, MacOS, Android, and iOS devices (such as laptops, tablets, and phones) that you want to use to connect and share media to the Solstice display. These user devices must be on the same network as the Solstice host in order to connect.
SPSS Statistics
A comprehensive software package that includes data management, statistical analysis, and reporting capabilities.
Kaltura
With four major components. Kaltura MediaSpace is the university’s media portal for you to upload, host, and share videos, images, and audios. Kaltura Capture is a desktop recorder for both Windows and Mac. Kaltura Integration is the fully integration of Kaltura with the university’s learning management system, Brightspace. Kaltura Classroom enables you to easily record a class session in most classrooms on campus. Kaltura can be accessed by going here and logging in with your PFW credentials.
Visual Studio
An integrated development environment (IDE) developed by Microsoft to develop graphical user interface, console, web applications, web apps, mobile apps, cloud, and web services, etc. With the help of this IDE, you can create managed code as well as native code.

- Student records (view holds, display grades and unofficial Purdue Fort Wayne transcripts, run unofficial Purdue Fort Wayne degree evaluations)

- Student account (review account summary, statement and payment history, current tax notification, and holds)
- Personal information (change security question; update address, phone number, and more)
Through OASIS, faculty can perform the following tasks:

SafeAssign is a plagiarism-prevention tool integrated into Blackboard that helps determine the authenticity of student-assignment submissions. It is used by the faculty to detect and discourage plagiarism, and to encourage its use among students.
Classroom Response Systems are tools used by the faculty for class polling and student feedback. These systems can be effective tools to engage student participation and aid in impromptu teaching. These tools can also be an effective way to engage an audience and provide feedback to presenters during any group event.
The iClicker Student Response System is the supported classroom-response system for the campus. In order to use iClicker, faculty members need to have a receiver, and students need a response pad. Faculty can use a faculty remote that allows them to control polling and results anywhere in the classroom. Faculty and staff interested in using iClicker should contact the IT Services Help Desk for assistance.
Students can purchase a student remote in the campus bookstore. Check the bookstore website or visit the Mastodon Campus Store for pricing information.
The university does not support WebClicker at this time.

Hardware and Printers
For personally owned equipment, the only hardware requirement is that you have a wireless card to connect to the wireless network or a network card to connect to the wired network in student housing. Your operating system minimum requirements must be equal to or newer than Windows 8.1 or Mac OS 10.15. We recommend an operating system similar to or newer than Windows 10 or Mac OS 11.
Other hardware and operating-system requirements are based on your needs and will depend on the software you run and the tasks you need to perform.
University-owned equipment must meet specific standards to operate effectively on Purdue Fort Wayne’s network and to be supported by IT Services. These are the minimum requirements that will need to be met, while many computers will need to exceed the standards to provide an effective workstation. Your hardware must also meet security and compliance standards.

Students can print in any of the student labs using their semester printing allotment. Students can also print from anywhere to a select set of printers using Web Print, also found on goPFW.
Departments provide printing capabilities to their employees via local printers or shared office printers. Each department's budget provides printers, paper, toner, and other associated costs. IT Services provides some services related to university-owned printers:
- Installation of new printers
- Printer moves for office relocations, painting, and furniture installs
- Secure disposal of printers
- Verification that a printer problem requires outside service
Information Technology Services does not provide repair services for printers. An outside vendor handles these requests.
