Strategic Initiatives
The following information highlights key strategic initiatives stemming from, and supportive of, our strategic planning and implementation efforts.
Academic Advising
Our first Student Success priority as an institution is supporting the success of all of our students. Among the first six strategic activities we developed action plans for implementation, three belonged to our aspiration to Champion Student Success. A critical first step is reimagining our academic advising structure to better support our first-year students and to create a more consistent advising experience across campus. In January 2020, our Advising action planning team issued extensive recommendations [login required] for carrying out this effort, and our change process was launched in June 2020, under the leadership of Kent Johnson, our new Executive Director for Academic Accountability and Student Success.

Chief Diversity Officer
In December 2019, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion action planning team recommended that the university establish the position of Chief Diversity Officer to oversee a new Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. After circulating those recommendations to various campus and community groups for input and feedback, the university launched a search for a new Chief Diversity Officer in May 2020.

Ethics Across the Curriculum
Central to Purdue University Fort Wayne’s mission as an academic institution is preparing our students to be productive, engaged members of their civic and professional communities. Our Ethics Across the Curriculum program, under the direction of Abe Schwab, Professor of Philosophy and Director of Graduate Studies, enhances the ethical component of students’ experiences at the university and in their academic program and better prepares them for the difficult decisions that they will have to make throughout their careers. Ethics Across the Curriculum supports our aspiration to Champion Student Success and advances our efforts to Enhance Quality of Place.
