Internships come in two flavors: paid and unpaid. Please note, if you’re interested in a cooperative education, also referred to as a co-op, position, you must be preapproved. Please read the ECE Student Guide for Internship and Co-op for detailed procedures. Some previous companies that ECE students have partnered with for internships and co-ops include Regal Rexnord (Regal Beloit), Franklin Electric, AccuTemp, PHD, Ultra Electronics, QSC (Attero Tech), Nidec, Steel Dynamics, Sortera Alloys, API Alliances, General Dynamics, Davaus, General Motors, John Deer, and BAE Systems.
The benefits of enrolling in an academic internship credit below:
• Competitive income earned to help finance your educational costs. Those enrolled in academic internships through PFW are earning more than minimum wage.
• Your work experience is related to your major/field of study. Faculty/department approval to determine true internship.
• Great on your resume for related field of study experience and employment prospects post-graduation.
• Internship experience recorded on official transcript.
• Enhance self-confidence and professionalism through awareness and development of workplace competencies.
• SkillSurvey self-assessment and employer evaluation.
• Support from University should there be any concerns/issues and celebrate student success
• Midterm check in with student intern and employer.
• Build networking opportunities and partnership with employers for you as well as to connect PFW students with other internship/employment opportunities.
