Advising
Connect to learn more
Have a question? Need a little help? Reach out to your advisor. If you aren’t sure who your advisor is, find the one who represents your major department.
Peer Support
Mastodons helping Mastodons.
Effective learning is a process with multiple elements. Your professors are an important part, of course, but so are your peers. In the College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science, we take your education seriously, which is why we offer two distinct peer support options—the Help Corner and the LEAD Peer Mentor Program. Whether you’re looking for help or want to help, check out what we have to offer.
Help Corner
Find a tutor.
The Help Corner offers tutoring services for ETCS students by ETCS students. Our tutors have proven academic success inside the classroom and are trained to provide a quality service to their peers. In-person tutoring is a drop-in process, no appointment needed. Click the following button to see the schedule of our current tutors.
Peer Mentoring
Help yourself—and others.
Our LEAD Peer Mentor Program is your chance to improve your skills, enhance your college experience, and prepare you for career success. You can also share your knowledge and help a fellow Mastodon. Read more about the program and consider becoming a mentor or mentee.
- Connect students to industry mentors, their peers, and their faculty through a variety of academic, career development, and social activities and events
- Guide students in feeling more connected to the campus and their educational goals
- Support students to improve their ability to articulate and formulate plans to actively pursue and achieve their academic and career goals
- Help students to develop or refine their study skills and time-management abilities
- Help students in their transition to the college environment and navigate their programs of study
- Make students aware of resources available to them on campus and in the community and encourage them to make use of those resources
- Inform students of the organizations and clubs the university has to offer, help them to get involved, or even start their own club if they feel that one is needed but not offered
- Enhance student leadership skills
- Monitor academic performance
- Provide opportunities for students to build academic, social, and professional networks through seminars, events, cocurricular activities, and industry mentors
- Foster a growth mindset—we want to help students accept that there are things they do not know and develop a tool kit of strategies and resources to help them bridge the gap between what they do not yet know and all there is to know about themselves and their disciplines
Becoming a mentee offers many opportunities:
- Benefit from the experience of the LEAD peer mentors
- Benefit from the opportunity to interact and network with industry mentors: current professionals working in ETCS fields
- Participate in a variety of social events (e.g., team-building workshops at Crazy Pinz, de-stress event with free massages, welcome back mixers)
- Develop your academic, social, and/or career-preparation skills
- Develop strategies for dealing with academic issues and personal difficulties, and balancing life responsibilities of work, school, and family
- Identify personalized goals and a clear plan to achieve them
- Learn how to get involved on campus in a way that will further your education and enhance your career readiness
- Make personal and professional connections in the career you plan to hold
All mentees are required to meet the following expectations:
- Commit to a minimum of one full calendar year of participation in the program.
- Meet and communicate regularly with your mentor (answer all correspondence).
- Work with your mentor to create a list of smart goals for each semester that the mentor can provide support to help you to achieve
- Participate in a minimum of three ETCS or university events each semester with one of the mentors
- Maintain a positive attitude
- Do not enter into a romantic relationship with mentor; these are inappropriate and not permitted
- Attend all classes; if an emergency arises, please notify your professors prior to missing class or as soon as is possible
- Assume personal responsibility for your academic and professional growth and development; use your resources and follow through with suggestions/directions from your mentor
