The deadline for classroom changes is one week prior to the first day of classes for any semester.
The Office of the Registrar classroom-change policy is to support consistent classroom-assignment information for students, faculty and staff. This information has been available to the university community prior to the start of the term, and last-minute changes impact the smooth opening of a term.
Exceptions will be made to this deadline in the following circumstances:
- Providing an accommodation to a student or faculty member with a disability
- Current room assignment provides for a critical deficiency in the teaching effectiveness of the instructor
- The Office of the Registrar needs to move a class section with low enrollment to a smaller room in order to accommodate a class section with a large enrollment.
Other exceptions may be appealed to the dean of the appropriate college, school, or division, and the registrar by the requesting faculty member‘s department chair.
The Educational Policy Committee has supported revisions to the original policy for the exceptions listed above.
This Purdue University Fort Wayne Cross-List Policy governs cross-list requests, including additions and other changes.
Due to technical requirements of the Brightspace Learning Management System, requests must be made by the published cross-list deadline for each term to be automatically approved. Deadlines for upcoming semesters and terms will be posted and communicated to you. In general, the cross-list request deadline is three weeks prior to the start date. Requests must be made by departments using the Change to Schedule of Classes Form 200. Form submissions will be reviewed and you will be notified when the cross-list change has been implemented.
For requests made after the deadline, the approval process is more complex and requires ITS analysis of the course, enrollment, content, and grading. Late requests may be denied if they fail to meet the detailed approval criteria. Our goal is to approve cross-list requests when possible, but technical limitations and student experience will sometimes prevent this.
Crosslist Deadlines:
Prerequisite
A course that must be taken prior to, or sometimes concurrently with, enrollment in another course. Course prerequisites can be found on SCAPREQ and section prerequisites can be found on SSAPREQ.
Corequisite
Courses or sections that must be taken together during the same semester (e.g., Learning Communities). Course corequisites can be found on SCADETL and section corequisites can be found on SSADETL.
Cross Listing
A Banner function that can monitor enrollment in one or more sections that meet on the same day and time, in the same room, with the same instructor. Cross listing can also be used if an instructor wants multiple sections to appear together in WebCT. The cross-list code appears on SSASECT for each cross-listed section and additional information can be found on SSAXLST or SSAXMTI.
Section Suffix
A letter that appears after the section number (e.g., 01N, 02I, 03U) to assist with identifying special locations or instructional methods. Section suffixes are most commonly used by Continuing Studies, but are also used for institutional reporting, and by students when searching for sections. See full suffix list.
Campus Codes
A designator that identifies various on-campus, off-campus, and distance-learning offerings so that the Office of the Bursar can accurately bill registered students and appropriate money to the correct university funds. Campus codes appear on SSASECT.
Primary Instructor
One instructor for each section is identified as the primary instructor in Banner on SSASECT. The primary instructor is identified in the schedule of classes, indicated as the primary instructor on student’s class schedules, and is the only instructor that can input final grades.
Schedule Types
A code on SSASECT that identifies the type of instruction that will be used for a section. Typical schedule types are lecture (LEC), lab (LAB), studio (SD), independent study (IS), clinical (HSC), distance education (DIS), internship/practicum (IN), experiential (EXP), industrial practice co-op (IP), applied music (AM), and recitation (REC).
