Transfer Credit

Registrar

Credits and coursework that count.

If you are a transfer student with undergraduate coursework from one or more US colleges, we’ll process and review your submitted transcripts once you are admitted to Purdue Fort Wayne.

Keep in mind the following guidelines:

  • Transfer credit must be represented as course credit on an official transcript from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Our academic departments determine the equivalency of transfer coursework from prior institutions to Purdue Fort Wayne courses.
  • Only college-level courses for which you receive a C− or higher will be considered for transfer.
  • Courses that are preparatory in nature, often courses with numbers less than 100, do not transfer.
  • Unless a course was completed at another Purdue University campus, only the course-credit transfers to Purdue Fort Wayne; the grade does not.
  • International and graduate students’ transfer credits will be evaluated by their respective departments.

Transfer evaluation System and Core Transfer Library

How do your credits transfer?

View courses from your previous institution and see how those credits can be applied to your Purdue Fort Wayne degree. Getting started in the Transfer Evaluation System is easy— just search for your institution to view recent transfer course-equivalency information. Don’t see what you’re looking for?  That doesn’t mean the credits won’t transfer—that institution or its courses may not have been reviewed yet.

You can also check out the Core Transfer Library, maintained by the state of Indiana, for a broad list of courses that are preapproved for transfer between participating institutions.

Transfer Equivalency Self-Service

Another way to plan for your transfer.

The Transfer Equivalency Self-Service (TREQSS) tool allows you to select your intended course of study at PFW, input courses from other institutions, and see how those courses and exams (such as Advanced Placement) will transfer. Then you can download the unofficial transfer audit that shows where transfer credits fit into your desired program, as well as any requirements left to complete.

Creating an account in TREQSS is optional. However, if you create an account, you will be able to save, edit, and add information later. Be sure to remember your email and password, as we cannot recover your information if you forget your email or password. Please note that credit from Purdue West Lafayette and Purdue Northwest is not considered transfer credit and is not visible using this tool.

Intercampus Credit

Have credit from a different Purdue campus?

For intercampus credit, students do not need to submit official Purdue transcripts. The Office of the Registrar will load your intercampus credit to your student records after you have been admitted to Purdue Fort Wayne. If your intercampus credits do not appear on your degree audit or unofficial transcript within ten days of admissions, please contact your advisor and ask that they submit an Academic History Request Form on your behalf.

Reverse Transfer

Apply your credits to an associate degree.

If you have earned credit hours at Ivy Tech Community College or Vincennes University, you can transfer new credits earned at Purdue Fort Wayne back to your two-year institution to earn an associate degree. Eligibility extends to students who are currently pursuing a baccalaureate degree, as well as students who have taken a break from college.

Some of the advantages of the reverse transfer opportunity include the following:

  • Ability to earn your associate degree while pursuing your baccalaureate degree
  • Advance in your career or financially with an earned associate degree
  • Qualify for more, higher-paying jobs

Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University have established their own minimum number of credits required for former students to be eligible for a reverse transfer degree.

We will work with students to help send transcripts to our partner two-year institutions in order to facilitate the reverse transfer process. Transcripts will be sent for free once you have at least 75 combined credit hours, have identified interest in an associate degree, and have filled out the reverse transfer transcript request.

You must provide permission for us to share your transcripts with the two-year institution. You can provide this authorization when you fill out the Purdue University Fort Wayne Reverse Transfer Transcript Request. Partner institutions may have additional requirements in order for an associate degree to be conferred.

Transfer Credit Review

Request a review.

If you have earned college credit from a US institution, foreign institution, or exam program from which we accept college credit, your credit will officially be evaluated after you have been admitted as a degree-seeking student.

You may request the university review how credits transfer to Purdue Fort Wayne if you have transferred credit and want to appeal the official evaluation you received and plan to take courses at another institution that you will transfer back to Purdue Fort Wayne and the institution and/or courses are not listed in the Transfer Equivalencies database.

Submit Request
In order to submit transfer coursework for review, students should contact their advisor to complete the Transfer Credit Revision Form found in goPFW. The request form is available under the Transfer Links card on the GoPFW page. We will not complete requests that are sent by students. The form needs to be filled out by their Advisor

Review
At a minimum, we require course descriptions and syllabi in order to review transfer credit. Course syllabi are generally required to review courses; however, students, staff, or faculty may submit only course descriptions if syllabi are not obtainable. All materials must be submitted in English. Courses listed in the Indiana Core Transfer Library will transfer to Purdue Fort Wayne as disclosed in the state’s database.

Response
Transfer articulation staff in our office or Office of International Education will process submitted review requests and work with appropriate academic departments to assess transfer credit. Responses to review requests will be sent within 15 business days.

Interpreting Transfer Credit

Understand undistributed credit and transfer credit codes.

Courses transferring to Purdue Fort Wayne as undistributed will have an X in the second position of the course number. The first number of undistributed courses are a level indicator (e.g., a 1 represents a 100-level course). Generally, it is up to specific departments to determine how undistributed credit will be applicable toward toward your degree.

CodeNotes
1XXXXUndistributed credit is transferable college credit that is not similar to or is less credits than a course offered at Purdue Fort Wayne, and is not an international language, music, or physical education performance course.
REVWREVW means a transfer course is currently under review by an academic department. Students and staff should wait to submit a Transfer Credit Review Request form for REVW courses until after courses are changed from REVW.
1XPNDAny XPND courses need support materials to review how credits may transfer. Materials may be course syllabi for US college credit, course descriptions in English for international credit, or other items departments request. Submit materials for review through the Transfer Credit Review Request Form in goPFW.
1XTRAXTRA credit means credit was given for a course offered at Purdue Fort Wayne and some credit was leftover because the transfer course was more credits than Purdue Fort Wayne’s equivalent. XTRA is not awarded to music, physical education performance, or international language courses.

1XFL1

1XFLX

International language credit is given to language classes not taught at Purdue Fort Wayne, or if transfer courses are more credits than a Purdue Fort Wayne course. A number added at the end of the course code tells if a course is a first, second, third, or fourth semester language course. An X at the end of the course code indicates the language sequence is unknown or the language is a fifth semester or greater.
