SUMMIT CITY JOURNAL AUTHOR GUIDELINES

Summit City Journal: A Student Research and Creative Endeavor Publication is an Open Access journal. This means that it uses a funding model that does not charge readers or institutions for access. Readers may freely read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of articles. This journal is covered under the CC BY-NC-ND license.

Who Can Submit

The SCJ accepts submissions from undergraduate and graduate students at Purdue University Fort Wayne and Indiana University Fort Wayne. The goal of this journal is to showcase student research and creative endeavors of all disciplines in multimedia formats, published in an online environment.

Submissions that represent research which may be forthcoming in another journal or book (print or electronic) are welcome. However, it is important that work submitted to SCJ takes a different approach to the subject matter so that no author inadvertently plagiarizes themselves or reveals substantive research results intended for publication in a disciplinary journal. Student authors should check with their research supervisors before submitting proposals. If you have concerns about the submission terms for the SCJ, please contact [email protected].

Formatting

The author is responsible for guaranteeing that the format of the submission is consistent and correct. The SCJ Editorial Committee will refuse submissions that are not in an appropriate condition for publication. All written entries should be submitted as a Microsoft Word file (DOCX). Images should be submitted as a PNG or JPG file.

Rights for Authors

Authors retain copyright of their work and grant SCJ the nonexclusive, worldwide rights to publish the work in print and electronic form. Because the SCJ is an Open Access journal, authors also will need to use the appropriate Creative Commons license for their work.

Copyright

In addition to including citations for all sources, the author must acquire and provide written authorization to publish all copyrighted material that exceeds fair use allowances as outlined in the U.S. Copyright Office Fair Use Index.

Under fair use guidelines, the author will consider the purpose and character of use, nature of the copyrighted work, amount and substantiality of material included, and the effect of the use on the potential market for the material. Authors may use the Fair Use Index for guidance as well as consult a librarian or other faculty member to help determine if copyright permission is necessary. The author is responsible for finding and communicating with the copyright owner if permission is necessary.

Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement

Authors must guarantee that:

  • All collaborators involved in the work consent to the publication.
  • Any submissions that do not meet originality requirements will be rejected without peer review.

All submissions will be reviewed based on intellectual content without regard for age, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender expression, country of origin, or political philosophy of the authors. All submissions submitted for peer review are kept strictly confidential by editors and reviewers. At no time will editors or reviewers utilize submitted materials without the consent of the authors.
