HOW-TO GUIDES

Creating a New Page

Make sure that you’re logged in to the site at https://www.pfw.edu/user/login.

  • In the admin toolbar at the top of the page, hover over Content, then Add Content, and then click on Page.
  • This will take you to the editing view of a new page. Most of the editing view is covered in the Quick Guide, but there are a few things that are specifically relevant to creating a new page.
  • System Title and Title: A page’s Title (e.g., “About Us”) is what the user sees. But many pages on the site are named “About Us,” which means the System Title has a more descriptive and unique name, including the unit that the page is a part of. This is so Drupal users can find and identify these pages for editing. Fill out the System Title with the unit name in it (e.g., “School of Music - About Us”).
  • College/School or Department: You’ll see a list of all units that you have editing access to in Drupal. In many cases, there will just be one. Make sure to click it so that your page will become a part of that unit.
  • Menu Settings: This is a series of fields found on the right-hand sidebar of the page. This is how you’ll get your page to show up in your unit’s navigation menu.
    • Provide a Menu Link: Make sure that this is checked, unless you don’t want your page to appear in any navigation.
    • Menu Link Title: This will automatically be filled out with the title of your page. Only change it if this title is long and you’d rather abbreviate it so that it will fit better in the limited space of the navigation bar.
    • Description: You can copy and paste the Menu Link Title here.
    • Parent Link: Select which navigation bar you want your page to show up in. The unit names will be bracketed like this: <School of Music>. In almost all cases, you’ll want to choose a unit, not an individual page.
    • Weight: You can adjust this higher or lower to make your link move closer to the back or front of the navigation menu, respectively. A page with a weight of 2 will be ordered directly after a page with a weight of 1.
  • Use the blue Save button at the bottom of the page to save your page as a Draft, unless you’ve completed the page with all the edits you want, in which case it’s ready to be published so that it’s live.
